A prayer for Thanksgiving

Posted on November 23, 2015 · Posted in Gratitude, Holidays, Worldview

O Lord my God, my Savior, I pray for a heart of thanksgiving for myself and for my family. Father, you are my reason for joy even when I fail. You are faithful when I am unfaithful. You promise heaven when I am consumed by the next hour.

Protect me from my own selfish desires. I confess that I want what cannot satisfy. I confess that I would rather complain about what is not done than be grateful for what I can do. I confess that I am easily disappointed by those I love even when I am blessed by your grace and mercy when I fail you. I confess I cling to bitterness more than I rush to praise. I confess that I am not satisfied that the nearness of you is my good.

O Lord, renew within me the joy of thanksgiving. Encourage my spirit with the truth that you are always with me, even when my flesh and heart may fail. Fill my soul with grateful joy that nothing, nothing can separate me from the love you have for me in Christ.

Thank you that you have called me to a life of praise. Rescue me from self-focus. Overwhelm me with gratitude that I can show your love to my husband, my wife, my children, to those you bring my way. Humble me so that I will bless your great name with each moment.

Father, you are good. Your unfailing love continues forever. Your faithfulness extends beyond the limits of time. May my life be one that shouts thanksgiving for who you are and what you have done.

In gratitude and by the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
