Investing In Landfills

Christ Formed In YouGold and precious stones are easy to acquire. All you need is money.  Thus, the rich, the famous, the sports elite gather gold and glittering jewelry for all to see. For the ordinary rich and those who want to be rich, they are told to pad their retirement accounts with gold and silver. In the midst of the dazzling display of wealth you can hear the words of success and the worship of created things. But for all this wealth, what is rarely heard are words that make sense of life.

The wonders of man are easily obtained. Look at our culture. Material wealth abounds, even in the face of poverty. Money, either owned or borrowed will provide the desires of human hearts. But what about wisdom and knowledge that brings life, not so much.

Jesus talks about wealth that will not vanish with a stock market crash or death. He talks about wealth which connects to eternity. Then he says, when you find this wealth, invest all you have to secure it. Great wealth and huge lines of credit are useless when it comes to eternal purchases. Jesus says quite simply, obtain purses that won’t wear out.

Christ is urging you to find something more sure than election year promises and portfolio projections. Why bother yearning, longing for things that will last a few years, when eternity hangs in the balance?

Find life that is truly life. How much of your wealth will rot and decay in the landfill? As Solomon says, nothing you desire can compare with the wisdom of God! Find and invest in words of life.

Gold there is, and rubies in abundance,
but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel.
