"The first time this book helped me was after a family discussion where my 15 year old daughter said that what she wanted was for her brother not to be angry at her. Her brother is able to drive and we determined that 90% of the time he gets angry at her because she is late being ready to go to school or church when he is driving. I was so excited to share with her the hope that this was doable because she is basically in total control of whether he gets mad at her 90% of the time! If she will choose to get up earlier or do whatever it takes to be ready on time, then he will not even be tempted to be angry! We gave examples of when she was on time and how smoothly it went because of what SHE did!
Now of course I then had to turn to her brother and talk with him about times he was overbearing with her and what he did at those times, and let him know that we can't control if she is on time or not so he will still possibly have the temptation to be angry. I pointed out that I can't "make" him not be angry, but consequences of his anger will develop, rather he can choose forbearance and obeying God as he has at other times. And I told my daughter that if she continues to choose to not be on time, she can make that choice, but then she will suffer the possible consequences of her brother not choosing forbearance but rather anger, and she will then not get what she wants. It just seemed to be the perfect time to apply the wise wants and consequences and give them the freedom to choose. I was very thankful and she was pretty much on time til the end of the school year! I'm grateful for this book's approach to help parent angry teens...really any teens!"
