The Resurrection – Don’t be foolish!

On the day of the resurrection on the road to Emmaus, two men who had been with Jesus, encountered him as they walked. He kept them from recognizing him. He asked them what they were talking about.

The men were incredulous! What else was there to talk about except what had happened since the crucifixion. They spoke of Christ and his power in the past tense. They spoke of their lost hope. They were puzzled at the reports that maybe Jesus was alive. They were evaluating these events from an earthly perspective. They did not believe, they speculated, they wondered.

Listen to strong rebuke from Christ:

“He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.” Luke 24:25-27

You and I are to understand life as God says it is in his word. We wonder if God is good, rather than believing that he is. We speculate about our sins being forgiven, rather than rejoicing that we are forgiven. We question whether we have everything we need for life and godliness instead taking the Holy Spirit at his word.

Don’t be foolish! The resurrection happened. You are united with Christ. Your relationship with God is secure. Do not doubt God’s faithfulness to you. The power that raised Christ is available for you.

The resurrection means that you no longer have to dominated by doubt and fear. You can love your God fully and freely. You can be gracious instead of being controlled by anger. You can know peace instead of anxiety.

Don’t be foolish! Run to your Savior. He has risen!
