Why I say Merry Christmas

It is not politically correct to greet people by saying Merry Christmas. I get that. However, I prefer to be biblically faithful. So I don’t say Merry Christmas as a greeting; I say it as a proclamation. The birth of Jesus Christ is not just a pleasant remembrance or an occasion for the giving of gifts. The birth of Christ literally means salvation for our entire planet and the people that God would rescue by his grace. The birth of Jesus was proclaimed by angels erupting into the night sky above the fields of Bethlehem. The Roman Press was not there to record the spectacular happening. The Reigning Christ!

Joy is a response to the reign of King Jesus. It is the rule of Christ and not your circumstances that is your reason for joy. This is the theme of the second verse of Joy to the World: Joy to the World, the Savior reigns! Let men their songs employ; While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains Repeat the sounding joy.
