When God Changes Everything, Everywhere

Seventy years ago today God changed everything, everywhere. Though there were fears and concerns that global conflict was possible, on the 7th of December, 1941, those concerns  were abruptly confirmed. Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor dramatically changed life on our planet. Over the course of World War II, over 400,000 Americans died in combat-related incidents. But even this number pales in comparison to the number who lost their lives world-wide –over 60 million people. Everything changed, everywhere. Suddenly, nothing was certain.

Interview with Kirk Cameron

Below is the link to a recent interview we had with Kirk Cameron about the impact of Shepherding a Child’s Heart on his family. It is exciting to see how God is continuing to use Kirk to speak for his great name. We are thankful also for the role that Shepherding a Child’s Heart has had on Kirk’s family. Let us know what you think about the interview. Here is the link: Interview with Kirk Cameron

Independence?

Two hundred thirty-five years ago this weekend, Americans declared their intention to be independent of England and her King. Unfortunately, such matters are seldom settled by simply signing a piece of paper and delivering it to the ruling country. England was not pleased with this declaration and entered into a long period of war before granting the upstart Americans their wish. But in the end, America had her desire—she was independent of the English.

Remember

Today is a day of national remembrance for the United States:  Memorial Day. We pause collectively to remember that many have died for our benefit.  On this day of remembered sacrifice, it is humbling to consider why so many have offered their lives so that we could live in freedom. We could think, as many do, that these sacrificial deaths are proof of an inherent goodness in man, and that despite all man’s negative traits, the spark of goodness remains. Surely, the willingness to die in battle shows that man is basically good in some way.  But such thinking would miss the mark, eliminating the need for Christ to die for sin. But if man is totally depraved, then how […]

Are We God-Proof?

Japan is one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world. The video images of  skyscrapers in Tokyo, swaying back and forth during this weekend’s monster earthquake, demonstrate this point. The fact that these buildings swayed, but did not fall, is a tribute to Japanese technology and planning. The problem is that there are few skyscrapers in the city of Sendai, which lies along the eastern coast of Japan, just miles from the epicenter of Friday’s massive earthquake. The most prominent structures in Sendai are homes, businesses, and nuclear power plants. These were all ravaged by the devastating force of the 8.9 earthquake and the tsunami that followed. Breathtaking videos showed the raw power of God, as boats, cars, […]

Is the Fall Irrelevant?

To a Christian committed to Scripture, the title of this post may seem to be a foolish question. Of course the Fall is relevant! My pastor said so in our adult Sunday School class! This hypothetical response may be stretching things a bit, but the Fall has become a forgotten doctrine in many circles. Our culture believes it is nothing more than a myth. What better example of this reality is there than the mass murder in Tucson this past weekend? Note the press coverage of the event. Everything from mental illness to a dysfunctional family to radio talk-show hosts is being blamed for these tragic shootings. Such responses provide a lesson that is crucial for your children to grasp: […]

The Gospel and the Election

For Christians, tomorrow’s elections are about the gospel. Yes, I know about the separation of church and state. Yes, I am aware that no one is running on a gospel platform. I also know that there are no national polls being done on the relevance of the gospel message to the issues of this campaign. To my knowledge, there are no state referendums on the ballot as to whether the gospel should be believed or not.  But I am still confident that this campaign is about the gospel. You see, after tomorrow, the balance of power in the U.S. Congress will be different than it is today. But this election will not change the condition of men’s hearts.

Earl, Stephen Hawking, and God

This weekend Hurricane Earl is visiting the East Coast. While a direct hit on the coast does not appear likely, Earl will no doubt cause widespread damage in areas not typically affected by hurricanes. It intriguing that this intense low pressure center is given a human name. Low pressure is a common meteorological occurrence and is frequently associated with stormy weather. On any given day a weather map will show both low and high pressure systems moving across the continent. However, no one attempts to name or even number these systems. They simply come and go. But several times each year, a low pressure system that forms in the warm waters of the tropics will grow to such a large […]
