Had Any Battles Lately?

I know, it is almost a foolish question. Battles and skirmishes are part of life. So, why ask?

Because, the question is not if we have battles, the question is whose battles are they. In a fallen world there will always be battles. As Christian parents, we must be careful that the battles we fight are God’s battles and not conflicts of our own making.

As a teenager engaged in a battle where he was hopelessly outmatched, David had total disdain for Goliath, the perfect human killing machine. Why, because he knew the battle was God’s! Sometimes God’s battles are won quickly, as with David and Goliath. Sometimes, perseverance is the smooth stone God wants us to use to gain victory. Confidence comes from engaging in the Lord’s battles. Fear, agitation, and weariness come from fighting our own battles.

Joy, pleasant words, faithful prayers for strength, love as outlined in I Cor. 13:4-7, are the weapons that God calls us to use.

May God grant the strength of his Spirit to faithfully and fearlessly engage in his battles.

“All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:41
