No Place in NY for those who are pro-life – Bible believers next?

Several news sources report that during a radio interview last Friday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said there is no place in New York State for extreme conservatives who are “right-to-life.” The reason: “that’s not who New Yorkers are.”

Depending in which poll you follow, the governor is saying there is no place for 55% to 40% of the people who currently live in his state. That is a significant number of people to tell that they are not welcome anymore!

I realize no state law has been passed banning “pro-life” people from New York. But what is important is to see the attitude of a public official who was elected to serve all the people of his state. This statement moves the issue of abortion beyond a debate of right and wrong. The governor is saying if someone does not believe as he does regarding abortion, then that person is no longer fit to be his neighbor.

There are a number of issues on the political spectrum that are at odds with what the Bible teaches. What Christians must realize is the governor’s statement reflects a growing dislike for the Bible. The day is coming when a similar statement may well be made about those who believe the Bible is true. It may not be this year or the next, but that day is coming.

Parents, your children will grow up in a culture and country that may well say there is no place for you here.  So what do you do? In Acts 8 we read that Christians were driven from Jerusalem by the persecution which followed the stoning of Stephen. What did these scattered believers do? They preached the gospel wherever they went.

If the rising tide of hatred of biblical Christianity is going to be turned, the church must bring the gospel to those that we encounter. It is not complicated. We have a mission to be salt and light, to speak the truth, to spread the good news. Prepare your children to embrace God’s call. Equip them to stand for truth and to be firm in the face of persecution.

God has called his people to be salt and light in a dark world. We are to represent God’s truth and his salvation as the hope of all men. The alternative is sobering:

“Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.

“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”

Luke 14:34-35
