The Equinox: A Time Of Color!

God's Great PlanToday, precisely at 10:21 a.m. EDT, the Sun will once again pass directly over the equator. If you live in Australia, today means that longer days and warm weather is on the way. If you live in North America, it is just the reverse, shorter days and cooling temperatures. The Lord announces the change of seasons with spectacular outbursts of color. Spring arrives with fresh greens and gorgeous, subtle pastels. Fall is arrives with bold splashes of yellows, reds and golds.

The Lord delights in color. He specifically designed you to recognize the visual beauty that accompanies the Sun’s passage across the equator twice each year. Your eyes are portals which allow light to be transmitted to your brain so that you can be awed by the intricate colors that God has made. A neuro-ophthalmologist once told me that between 30-50% of the brain’s activity has to do with vision.

Light and color are big deals to God.

The seasonal changes in color are not random. They specifically remind you that God always keeps his promises! These seasonal colors are great way to teach your children about God’s faithfulness. This spectacular display lasts only a few weeks. But the splendor of his glory remains etched in our minds year round.

God marks the seasons of fall and spring with color. He also uses color to mark his covenant promise that he made to Noah. A special combination of light and water in the atmosphere produces the unique beauty of the rainbow. The seasonal colors and the brilliance of the rainbow are the majestic markers that God uses to show he is the God who keeps his word!

Colors and seasons are things we tend to take for granted. But if we do, we miss the meaning of these colors. As the seasons change, be blown away by the color. Let your children hear the praise of God flowing from your mouth. Tell your children that God specifically designed us to be dazzled by colors that proclaim his faithfulness. Your God is the faithful God of color and seasons.

Praise his name!
