The Promise of Daybreak

The monochrome of daybreak is warming to the touch of the sun. The air is still. The quiet of night is fading. Soon engines, birds, wind in the trees and the sounds of the morning will mark the new day. While there is wonder in how this day will unfold, there is no doubt that the steady hand of God will bring about what he has planned.

It is true, there is no promise this day will bring what I want, that I will be shielded from my deepest fears. There is only the promise that the One who gave his life for me will do what honors his great name. I pray that God will grant that this will not only be enough for my anxious heart but that my soul will join with the song of the angels in awe of the mercies and power of God.

What is true is that God has planned from eternity the things that I can do to bring honor to him and blessing to me. The Holy Spirit’s commitment to the reality is stated in Ephesians 2:10:

For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.

I am created in Christ to do things that God has prepared for me to do this day. Nothing can change this rock-solid, centering reality!

As the fog lifts on the day, may Christ take the first gleam of dawn and make it shine ever brighter until the full light of God’s glory captures my heart. Today, may I rejoice in what he planned for me to make me love and cherish him more so that my life will represent him well.
