Thought for the Lord’s Day

Music has the capacity to align our thoughts with the wonder of God’s character. If this happens, everything else will fall into place. Thus the songs we offer to the Lord are not primarily designed to make us have a more enjoyable worship experience.

Jehoshaphat led Israel into battle against a vastly superior army. He directed the people to have faith in God and then to praise God for his holiness and faithfulness. Remember, the music was offered before the battle began!

May the music you sing this Lord’s Day and everyday cause you to be thankful for greatness of your God.  There is no better way to enter into the battles of life.

…As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.”  After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying:

“Give thanks to the Lord,

    for his love endures forever.”
