Thought for the Lord’s Day

Do you worship because of what you see or what you don’t see?

This may be the most important question that can be asked about worship.

If you worship primarily because of what you see, your worship is much like that of the world around you. It is not distinctive nor is it holy worship.

If you worship because of what you don’t see you are aligned with the type of worship the Bible describes.

Much of the anxiety we face in this world is because our worship is too connected to our   perceived well being in the world that is seen. God says our focus must be on what cannot be seen.

Meditate on the verses below and ask yourself where your concerns lie. Do you worship what you can see or what you cannot see?

Whom have I in heaven but You?
And besides You, I desire nothing on earth…

But as for me, the nearness of God is my good;
I have made the Lord God my refuge,
That I may tell of all Your works.  Psalm 73:25, 28

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.  For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
