What about Ebola?

Can the people of the earth, of a particular country, ignore the person and rule of God without fear of consequence?

In America it is permissible to speak of any god as long as that god is not the God of the Bible. We can pray in any name as long as it is not the name of Jesus Christ. We claim to be a spiritual people, but we refuse to be illumined by the words and laws of the Holy Spirit. In the name of sexual freedom God’s instruction of what constitutes a family has been savaged. Let me ask again, can God be ignored without fear of consequence?

The answer is no!

God will not be ignored. His character, his attributes will not allow it. The Ruler of Heaven and Earth is a patient God, but he is also Holy. His holiness will not allow for him to be ignored and treated as if he were one of many options that man can choose from to bring protection.  God’s patience must not confused for his approval or ambivalence.

If there should be an Ebola outbreak, a great storm or a massive earthquake, a response that begins with a moment of national silence is an affront to the power and holiness of God.  Repentance and crying out to the Christian God is not politically correct. There is no law or executive order that can restrict the spread of a deadly disease that has no cure. We stand helpless before the power of a massive 9.0 earthquake or a category 5 hurricane that strikes a major city.

Remind your children often of the power, patience and holiness of God.  Teach them to understand reality from the Sovereign Lord’s perspective.  Make no mistake; God is not limited by political correctness. The gospel is the need of the American people, indeed of every nation. Pray for the courage to spread this gospel that brings the life-changing power of Jesus Christ to a needy land.

God is powerful. He is patient. He is holy. He will not forever ignore the arrogance of those who mock his law, his majesty, his uniqueness, his salvation. Pray that the truth of Isaiah 40 will speak once again to a nation deluded by its own pride:

He brings princes to naught
and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.

No sooner are they planted,
no sooner are they sown,
no sooner do they take root in the ground,
than he blows on them and they wither,
and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.

“To whom will you compare me?
Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.
