There is much concern about the southern border of the United States. Is it secure and safe? Will the border offer protection from disease, drug cartels, terror and economic stress? At the moment these questions are up for debate.
But there are borders set by God for his people that are safe and secure. These borders will protect you from the forces of evil. There is no force of man or of this world which can break through them.
The security offered by God’s borders for your life will bring comfort to you as you consider the challenges that arise from the uncertainty of national borders. Many Christians live in countries where man-made borders offer little or no safety. Praise God that the borders he has drawn for his people are secure.
David reminds us in Psalm 16 that the boundary lines, the borders of his life, have fallen in pleasant places. We have an inheritance that is fully protected and guaranteed by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14). Human borders makers may fail and abandon their citizens to enemies. But David rejoices that he will never be abandoned to the grave. He was protected, secure and blessed within the borders set by his God and by your God.
In faith, David, like Abraham before him, was looking to a city, a land whose builder and architect is the Lord. This day be encouraged by the words of the Holy Spirit written 3,000 years ago:
Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
you make my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
surely I have a delightful inheritance.
I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure,
because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
nor will you let your faithful[b] one see decay.
You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
