Christmas Light

Christmas is all about the joy of true light. John’s gospel teaches us that Jesus is the light for all of humanity.  Any goodness in people is a reflection of the true light of Christ.

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

There is no authentic light in this world but the light of Christ. Anything else that appears to be light is but a reflection of the light of Christ. This is just like the way that the moon or the planets have no light of their own – they only reflect the light of the sun.

2,000 years ago an old prophet believed God’s promise that he would see the Messiah before he died. He was overjoyed when he encountered Mary and Joseph in the temple with their young son. Recalling the words of Isaiah he said this baby was

a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.

When you look for light look the one true light – the light that is not a reflection but the authentic, true light of Jesus Christ, the unique Son of God.

The light of Jesus, the wonder of Christmas, is the life-giving light of peace and wholeness in a dark and broken world. Jesus is the light of the world and the light of you life.

Joy to the world, the light of Christ still reigns!
