God Alone

The Holy Spirit makes a statement about the uniqueness of God in Psalm 62. It is a simple, straightforward declaration:

He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress where I will never be shaken.

When David says God alone is his rock and his place of safety, he means just that. God is the only safe place. He is not one option among many possibilities. He is the only option, period. There is no person, place, or thing that can take God’s place. The greatest miscalculation that any person can make is to believe that there are other places of security besides God.

Christ All SufficientThis does not mean that we can’t find peace and safety in people, places, or things. It means that God is the reason that safety can be found anywhere. God is the giver of all good gifts. He has made us to be able to enjoy relationships and delight in the beauty of creation. The problem comes when we ignore God’s hand in all that we do. He is present every second of our lives. He is not more accessible in one place than he is in anything place. Every moment of life is an opportunity for worship, every moment!

This is how you find safety in God alone. He is the rock of every life circumstance that you encounter. Every moment is to bring honor to him. You can know peace in the middle of conflict.  You can know joy in times of deep sorrow. The light of Christ always shines in the darkness.

David’s words are true. God alone is our rock and our safety.
