George Washington nominated intolerant extremist, John Jay, to be Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. At least that is what our current Court thinks.
On September 24th, 1789, President George Washington signed into law the Judiciary Act. Later that day he nominated John Jay of New York to be the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Justice Jay had impressive credentials. But for our purposes please note these three quotes made by John Jay regarding Christianity and the Bible:
“By conveying the Bible to people . . . we certainly do them a most interesting act of kindness. We thereby enable them to learn that man was originally created and placed in a state of happiness, but, becoming disobedient, was subjected to the degradation and evils which he and his posterity have since experienced. The Bible will also inform them that our gracious Creator has provided for us a Redeemer in whom all the nations of the earth should be blessed…”
“The Bible is the best of all books, for it is the word of God and teaches us the way to be happy in this world and in the next. Continue therefore to read it and to regulate your life by its precepts.”
“Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation, to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”
Justice Jay was entrusted by the President and the Senate to faithfully interpret the new Constitution of the United States. That is, he and his fellow justices were deemed to be the best possible men to determine what was and what was not constitutional.
In effect, Washington and the Senate tossed the keys to the new constitutional government to Justice Jay and said, “Take good care of it.” As you can see from the representative quotes listed above, Jay believed that the best way to take care of the new government was for its people to regulate their lives by the precepts of the Bible and that the new nation should be run by Christians.
You don’t have to be a legal scholar to realize that such beliefs today are viewed as extreme and unconstitutional. Let that sink in. These beliefs, among other things, qualified John Jay to be the first Chief Justice. Yet somehow, by today’s standards, his views are not constitutional. How is that possible?
I can imagine a Senator standing up on the floor of the new Senate and declaring that nominee John Jay was unfit for office because of his extreme, intolerant view that all of life should be directed by the Bible – and, furthermore, that all stand in need of the redemptive work of Christ. Well, actually, I can’t imagine that would have happened.
But last Wednesday, June 26, 2013, the U.S. Supreme Court declared that the precept of marriage as taught by the Bible was indeed unconstitutional and was a source of bigotry. The ruling of the Court formally and officially said the word of God was null and void with regard to marriage.
As a result, I am declaring last Wednesday to be Defiance Day – the day when the Supreme Court and our nation called out the Living God of heaven and earth.
Game on.
Pray for repentance. Proclaim the Gospel.

I love this!!!
Shame on them. If it weren’t for God and the faith of our founding fathers we wouldn’t have had a country to begin with. Shame on the supreme court for their decision. Big no no!
great article!
Such a sad, disheartening day in our country
God forgive our country and those who voted for the corrupt government that put these men and women into a place of power.
“Do not be afraid of them; remember the Lord who is great and awesome and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives and your houses.” Nehemiah 4:14
Praise be to God! And yet nowadays it seems our country is losing sight of this.
amen
Remember that it is actually God, not we the people, who puts those who govern us into place. God has his plan in place. When laws that lead our country away from God are enacted, it is disheartening, for sure. But on the other hand, it increases my excitement and anticipation of the day that Jesus returns and God once again rules the earth!
Amen! Game on – God and His people are the winners. Anyone who goes against the Word of God is wrong. Those who voted against God’s truth will surely pay a hefty eternal price and their suffering in hell is justified. I am ashamed for them; I’m sure they have no clue about what they’ve done and what consequences await them. “Sin is a reproach to any people.” Our country’s current misery is the result of turning your back to God. Repent, turn from your wicked ways before it’s too late.
Satan is indeed here and devouring the earth. The Supreme Court has now ruled a counterfeit model for marriage. But as it has been said before…. the fight is fixed and we know how it ends. Satan loses Jesus is Victorious! So we shouldn’t be surprised that the world is turning truth upside down. Continue to have faith and show light and salt to the world!
