Today the fast and furious chaotic mess of the midterm will be over. Many think these midterms are the most important in American political history. So, there is much uncertainty and turmoil about which party will win control of the legislature.
But tomorrow, the efforts of man to influence election results will be over, at least for the next 24 hours! However, despite all of the human uncertainties God, will continue to exercise his dominion over the political arena. This means that nothing will happen today that will stop the people of God from obeying God. Tomorrow we can be thankful for God’s good providence.
But we don’t know the results of the election yet. How can we be thankful?
It is true we don’t know the results. But we do know that God has determined the outcome! Read what Daniel says about the election process:
Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;
wisdom and power are his.
He changes times and seasons;
he deposes kings and raises up others.
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the discerning.
Because God is the one who ultimately determines the authorities of this world we can trust that he always provides a path for us to honor him regardless of who is in office. God’s people are to follow the direction of our brother Paul about how to respond to the candidates who are elected today. We are to be thankful for them and pray for them.
No power on earth, either red or blue, can hold back the plan and purpose of God. Tomorrow may God’s people be full of thanksgiving that we can do what he has called us to do by his mighty power. Read again Paul’s words of encouragement and be thankful for what will do today!
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. —1 Timothy 2:1-2
