It is the law: self-perception, not God, determines gender!

Today, August 12th, the Governor of California signed into law an initiative requiring public schools to allow transgender K-12 students access to whichever restroom and locker room they want. According to Fox News, the new law gives students the right “to participate in sex-segregated programs, activities and facilities” based on their self-perception and regardless of their birth gender.

This new California state law, which reflects the beliefs of many national leaders, defies the role of God in assigning gender. Gender determination is now said to be defined by the “self-perception” of an individual. And, of course, this self-perception of gender might not be permanent. There are documented cases of individuals deciding they are one gender and then later deciding that they are the other gender. So you can perceive yourself to be a male and then, later on, perceive yourself to be a female.

We live in a country that believes it has no more use for God and the Bible. Before you dismiss this thought as too extreme, consider this. The Bible is clear: God created man to be male and female. But, if one asserts that the Person and Law of God has anything to do with human sexuality, that person will likely be charged with hate speech.  This law says it is up to each individual human to determine for themselves what their gender is, regardless of how they are physically made.

This is what happens when evolutionary thinking replaces biblical thinking. Evolutionary thinking places man or random acts in control of life. This is deemed preferable to the reality of the living God of the Bible. Culturally, Americans have become conditioned to view God as irrelevant. We actually have come to believe the lie about the emperor’s new clothes. There is no God of consequence; only our own self-perception matters. So whether you are 4 years old or 7 or 10 or 15 or 35, you and you alone know whether you are a male or a female.

This is what we have become as a nation. We do what is right in our own eyes.

But we are not without hope! We are in possession of the power of the gospel! Only changed hearts can cause our culture to grasp what it has become. The gospel matters now more than ever. Jesus said that no man can serve two masters. One master will be hated, the other loved. If we have become our own master, then God must be hated.

The passing of this law only illustrates the urgency of presenting the gospel to your family and then to others around you. Only the power of the gospel will undo the blind allegiance of the human heart to itself. The spread of the gospel is what can change the direction of our country. May God grant that we will see the folly of self rule.
